SCASD INTRAMURAL KAYAKING PROGRAM Safety |
![]() |
Due to safety considerations and the size of the paddling areas, IM Kayaking sessions will be limited to nine (9) students. The first nine who sign up at each school will paddle. We will have a waiting list if more than nine students submit forms. If you have signed up and cannot attend a session please let Mrs. Geleskie know, so the students on the waiting list can be invited to join the paddling session.
There will be two (2) coaches/instructors with the students. The coaches are experienced paddlers and will assist students getting in and out of boats.
Kayaking is a relatively safe sport. However, there are hazards to any sport, especially those practiced outdoors. The coaches are very familiar with the water we will be paddling. Students must listen to the coaches and be aware that not all hazards are readily visible. If a paddler behaves in an inappropriate manner he or she will not be permitted to paddle. Any student who intentionally ignores the rules and endangers the safety of self or other students in the class will be removed from the program. Students will receive safety instruction throughout the sessions. Mitigating risk is part of the sport of paddling; responsible paddlers always practice safety first.
