SCASD INTRAMURAL KAYAKING PROGRAM
Frequently Asked Questions

What is IM Kayaking?

IM Kayaking is one of many intramural sports offered by the State College Area School District.   There is no cost to participate.   Students do not need to try out for IM sports.   All paddling equipment is provided.

What Do We Do?

In short we paddle.   To be more specific we learn boating safety and stroke mechanics while paddling at Bald Eagle State Park or on Spring Creek in Bellefonte.   Kayaks will be provided.

Do I Need Prior Experience?

NO.   Beginners are welcome.   Experts are welcome.   All you need is to fill out both an IM sports permission form and a participant information form before you can participate.

Is Busing Provided?

Yes.   School vans will provide transportation to all paddling sites.   With advance notice, parents may pick-up students at any of the sites at 6:00pm; otherwise it is assumed that the parents will pick up the student at the originating school at 6:30pm.   The parent or designee must sign out the student.

What Kind of Equipment Does SCASD Provide?

SCASD owns 5 kayaks, paddles, helmets, skirts, and PFDs (life jackets).   Additional kayaks and gear and all equipment transportation is provided by Joan.   The coaches will also carry basic first aid and rescue gear.   Students will need to wear bathing suits, footwear and weather appropriate clothing, and bring towels.

When Do We Meet?

A schedule will be distributed before the beginning of each session.   Any changes will be announced at school.   We will also notify registered students by E-mail.
